NEW YORK, June 23. /TASS/. Russian national Dmitry Ukrainsky, extradited to the United States on theft charges, was arraigned in court, Public Information Officer at the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York John Marzulli told TASS.
"He has been extradited and was arraigned in Brooklyn Federal Court yesterday. The defendant was remanded," he said.
The Russian is charged with fraud and stealing over $300,000 from the accounts of US citizens. Ukrainsky was accused of laundering the money in Thailand but he pleaded not guilty at court as he had never been to the US. However, he was sentenced to ten years in prison in Thailand for financial crimes. The court ruling took effect in 2019 and in accordance with Thailand’s laws, the Russian was expected to be released on parole. A Thai court later granted the United States’ request for his extradition.
