MOSCOW, November 20. /TASS/. The Norilsk Nickel Company (Nornickel) will become carbon-neutral by 2060, along with Russia's plans to become a carbon-neutral country, the company's Vice President for Environment and HSE Stanislav Seleznev told TASS.
"Whereas [this] country has declared carbon neutrality by 2060, then I can't see any company may follow a different route," he said. "We are obliged to comply with goals of the Russian Federation."
With this in mind, he continued, the company has been working on forest-climatic projects, it plans to launch a solar power plant, and has been upgrading assets to cut the carbon footprint.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced Russia would achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, noting the goal was absolutely realistic and it was promising new business opportunities.
