ASTANA, February 22. /TASS/. Kazakhstan has launched an oil and gas project to develop the Kalamkas-Sea, Khazar and Auezov fields in the Kazakh section of the Caspian Sea together with Russia’s Lukoil, the press service of the administration of the republic’s Mangistau Region reported on Wednesday following a meeting between the region’s head Nurlan Nogayev and Director General of Kalamkas-Khazar Operating Kurmangazy Eskaziyev.

"The implementation of the oil and gas project on the development of the Kalamkas-Sea, Khazar and Auezov fields is starting in Mangistau. According to the project, the first production at the Kalamkas-Khazar field is planned to start in late 2028. The construction of its marine platform will begin in late 2024. Work on the design will be carried out in 2023," the report said.

On February 6, an improved model-based contract for the development of the field was signed, Eskaziyev noted, adding that Russia’s oil major Lukoil acted as a foreign strategic partner of the Kazakh KazMunayGas. "Some $6 bln worth of direct investment will be pumped into the project. At the initial stage of the project, 2,000 new jobs will be created. Production is expected to start in 2028, totaling 4 mln tons of oil per year," he said.

Kalamkas-Khazar Operating was created this year specifically for developing the Kalamkas-Sea and Khazar offshore fields in the Caspian Sea. "The construction of steelwork marine platforms is planned 64 km away from the shore at the Kalamkas-Sea structure. Total reserves of the section of the Kalamkas-Sea and Khazar structure equal 81 mln tons of oil. Moreover, we plan to open an office in Aktau. In the future, work will also be carried out in the overland marine part of the Caspian Sea," the head of the company added.
