Ukraine fines Engie, Shell subsidiaries — regulator

The antimonopoly committee of Ukraine initiated a probe in September 2021 into companies that were involved in financing the Nord Stream 2 project

KIEV, November 25. /TASS/. The antimonopoly committee of Ukraine (AMCU) has slapped subsidiaries of Engie and Shell with fines, the local regulator said on Friday.

"The temporary administration board of the Ukrainian antimonopoly committee made a decision to impose a fine on Alliance Holding and Engie Energy Management Ukraine for failure to provide information in response to requests of a state authorized employee of AMCU," the regulator said on Facebook [banned in Russia, owned by Meta recognized as extremist in Russia - TASS].

The committee initiated a probe in September 2021 into companies that were involved in financing the Nord Stream 2 project.

The regulator said it had identified three businesses operating in Ukraine who had ties to these companies - Engie Energy Management Ukraine (controlled by Engie), Alliance Holding (controlled by Shell) and BASF T.O.V. (under control by BASF). These Ukrainian firms were not direct participants in the Nord Stream 2 project but AMCU sent inquiries to them to furnish information about agreements made by their parent companies on Nord Stream 2 funding.

Not a single respondent complied with AMCU demands so the regulator could not establish whether these companies needed to receive a permit from the Ukrainian regulator for transactions with European parent companies that had taken part in Nord Stream 2 funding and whether they violated Ukrainian laws or not.
