Russian defense chief arrives in Astana for Post-Soviet bloc talks on plans for 2019

At the meetings, the CSTO member states will take decisions on enhancement of the organization and its bodies along with the decisions related to the functioning of the collective security system

ASTANA, November 7. /TASS/. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has arrived in Astana, Kazakhstan’s capital, to attend a joint meeting of the CSTO Councils of Foreign Ministers and Defense Ministers and the Committee of Security Councils’ Secretaries and a session of the CSTO Collective Security Council on November 8.

"Delegations of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan will discuss a range of political and military issues along with issues related to counteraction to contemporary challenges and threats," Rossiyana Markovskaya, the Russian defense minister’s spokeswoman, told reporters on Wednesday.

At the meetings, the CSTO members will take decisions on enhancement of the CSTO (the Collective Security Treaty Organization, a security alliance of six post-Soviet nations) and the organization’s bodies along with the decisions related to the functioning and development of the collective security system.

"Besides, the results will be summed up and joint events for next year will be coordinated," she added.
