Kiev and allies fear Trump will force them to make peace on Russia's terms — Bloomberg

US president’s critics are concerned that Trump "may offer consessions to Russia without Ukraine’s consent, putting President Vladimir Zelensky in a perilous position"

NEW YORK, March 18. /TASS/. Kiev and its European allies are worried that US President Donald Trump will try to compel them into a deal on Russia’s terms, Bloomberg news agency reported on the eve of a telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump.

It said that Trump will try to persuade Kiev to make peace on terms that will be beneficial to Russia "leaving Ukraine weakened and vulnerable to the Kremlin in the future."

US president’s critics are concerned that Trump "may offer consessions to Russia without Ukraine’s consent, putting President Vladimir Zelensky in a perilous position."

The agency believes that the Russian and US leaders will discuss not only the prospects for a ceasefire in Ukraine, but also a wider range of common interests, like trade, and will also discuss a possible in-person meeting as part of efforts to reset relations.

The phone conversation between Putin and Trump will take place on Tuesday. The fact of preparation for the call was confirmed the day before by Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov. The Kremlin said they would prepare points for the conversation on all relevant issues, primarily on the Ukrainian resolution. Trump also told reporters that he plans to pay attention to territorial and infrastructural issues in the Ukrainian conflict.

The previous telephone conversation between Putin and Trump took place on February 12, the first official conversation between the leaders of Russia and the United States in three years. They discussed the Ukrainian conflict and relations between the two countries, agreeing to continue contacts, including in-person meetings.
