MOSCOW, February 11. /TASS/. More than 65% of Ukrainian residents give a negative assessment of the economy in the country, as well as their personal financial situation, Verkhovna Rada lawmaker Nina Yuzhanina reported.
"Overall, 65.6% of consumers evaluate their financial situation and the country’s economy in a negative way," she wrote on her Telegram channel, citing the Ukrainian State Statistics Service.
Yuzhanina also emphasized Ukrainian entrepreneurs also had a pessimistic outlook on the economy. "The share of private businesses that hold a negative assessment of their economic confidence for the next three months exceeds the number of positively inclined enterprises: in construction by 38.8%, in manufacturing - by 8.6%, in the service sector - by 6.2%," she wrote, also noting that "the authorities do not offer effective proposals to improve economic sentiment."
Kiev has repeatedly stated that Ukraine is able to cover only military expenditures on its own. All other budget needs are financed by foreign aid. Meanwhile, Western partners are pushing Kiev to find new ways to finance itself. Late last year, Ukraine passed a law on tax increases, which local media have called historic. Furthermore, the Ukrainian authorities admit that only a quarter of the financial aid received from the West comes in the form of grants, while the rest is made up of loans that will have to be repaid at some point.
