MOSCOW, January 22. /TASS/. In the wake of Ukraine’s recent military failures, the office of Vladimir Zelensky has launched a "witch hunt" in an apparent attempt to shift blame onto his generals, Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada (parliament) lawmaker Irina Gerashchenko said.
"Even as we speak, the government is twisting facts, going on a witch hunt in an attempt to find a scapegoat for the country’s military failures," said Gerashchenko, a member of former President Pyotr Poroshenko’s European Solidarity party.
She added that several Ukrainian generals have already been arrested and accused of defensive failures.
"While the situation <…> on the battlefield is deteriorating, the armed forces are being discredited and demotivated," she added.
The lawmaker went on to say that no matter how the Ukrainian conflict ends, the incumbent authorities will still be held responsible for their poor management of the military, inadequate appointment of personnel to key military positions, and budgetary solutions.
On January 20, Ukrainian Brig. Gen. Yury Galushkin, Lt. Gen. Artur Gorbenko and Col. Ilya Lapin were detained and charged over last May’s military debacle in the Kharkov Region, as well as the loss of personnel and equipment there.
