MINSK, January 12. /TASS/. This year will be dramatic and "turbulent," as the world is on the threshold of grandiose events, Belarus’ President Alexander Lukashenko said at a reception on the occasion of the Orthodox New Year.

"I would like to warn you: the world is on the eve of grandiose events. We are in a precarious situation today. It is like walking on thin ice. One careless move - and we can sink and cause the state to capsize. In all likelihood, this year will be very dramatic," the BelTA news agency quotes Lukashenko as saying.

The Belarusian leader pointed to the continued persistent attempts by the U.S. "to rule the world the way it was after the collapse of the Soviet Union."

"Ukraine, the Middle East, the border between the Indian and Atlantic Oceans, the Houthis... There have been demonstration bombings just for the sake of the upcoming elections in the US and the wish to show everybody ‘How cool I am’," Lukashenko said. "The whole planet may go up in flames. This cannot be allowed.".
