Death toll from quake in Syria climbs to above 460 — Health Ministry

There is no confirmed information about the casualties or destruction from the territories of Syria not controlled by Damascus

MOSCOW, February 6. /TASS/. The death toll from the earthquake in Syria has grown to 461, the Health Ministry said on its Facebook page (banned in Russia; owned by the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in Russia).

According to the ministry, another 1,326 were injured. The casualty statistics are not final, the Health Ministry said. The Syrian provinces of Aleppo, Latakia, Tartus and Hama, located in the west and northwest of the country were the hardest-hit.

According to the Al-Jazeera TV broadcaster, in the northern regions of the country, controlled by the armed opposition, at least 380 died and more than 1,000 others were injured in the disaster. Entire families still remain under the ruins. Rescuers have problems with recovering them due to the lack of special equipment.
