Assad thanks Russia for aid offered to quake-stricken Syria

A powerful 7.7-magnitude quake struck the Kahramanmaras province in the southeast of Turkey on Monday

BEIRUT, February 6. /TASS/. The aid offered by Russia to Syria in the aftermath of the earthquake indicates the depth of relations between the two countries, Syrian President Bashar Assad said on Monday during a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

"President Assad thanked the Russian leadership for this initiative (aid - TASS), noting that such a position by Russia reflects the depth of relations between the two countries and peoples and is a continuation of all that Russia has provided to Syria in their joint fight against terrorism," Assad's office said in a statement published on its Telegram channel.

As the Kremlin press service reported earlier, during the conversation, "Putin expressed his sincere condolences in connection with the aftermath of the earthquake in northern Syria, which caused numerous human casualties, and offered to provide the Syrian side with any necessary assistance in dealing with the consequences of this disaster."
