Russian ambassador summoned to German Foreign Ministry over expulsion of 40 diplomats

Unmotivated cuts in the diplomatic personnel of Russian foreign missions in Germany narrows the space for dialogue, the Russian embassy noted

BERLIN, April 4. /TASS/. Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechayev was summoned on Monday to the German Foreign Ministry, where he was told about the expulsion of 40 employees of Russian diplomatic and consular missions in Germany, the embassy reported.

"On April 4, 2022, the Russian ambassador was summoned to the German Foreign Ministry, where the official position of the German federal government was stated to him in connection with the developments in the [Ukrainian] city of Bucha," it said. "The German side also decided to declare 40 employees of Russian diplomatic and consular missions in the Federal Republic of Germany personae non gratae".

The Russian side "emphasized that unmotivated cuts in the diplomatic personnel of Russian foreign missions in the Federal Republic of Germany narrows the space for dialogue" and "leads to a further degradation of the whole set of Russian-German relations," it stressed. "We expressed deep regret over the unfriendly actions of the German side that won’t be left without consequences," the embassy said.

The Russian Defense Ministry on April 3 dismissed Kiev’s charges the Russian forces were allegedly responsible for killing civilians in Bucha, the Kiev region. The Defense Ministry stressed that on March 31 Bucha’s Mayor, Anatoly Fedoruk, said in a video address that there were no Russian forces in the community, but said nothing about any civilians allegedly shot on the streets. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov dismissed the Bucha incident as a "fake attack.".
