MINSK, March 1. /TASS/. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on Tuesday said he has information that subversion groups from Ukraine may attempt to enter Belarus.
"They have now deployed a lot of subversion groups," he said at a meeting with the Security Council and government members, BelTA news service reported. "We have information that they aim to infiltrate our territory by subversion groups."
Officials including Viktor Gulevich, the chief of staff of the Belarusian armed forces, Viktor Khrenin, the defense minister, and Anatoly Lappo, the chief of the border guard committee, have been notified, the president said.
Lukashenko said Belarus will reinforce its southern border with new battalion groups that are capable of preventing provocations and hostilities against Belarus.
"Our generals have taken preventive measures and instead of five tactical battalion groups we are deploying 10," he said. "Tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, we will build up our efforts on the southern border by one or two."
"These are well trained maneuvering groups that are ready to prevent any provocation and any hostilities against Belarus," Lukashenko said.
