Ukrainian citizens victimized by Kiev regime’s propaganda machine, says Kremlin

They become hostages of nationalist military formations and are often used as shields, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted

MOSCOW, February 28. /TASS/. Ukrainian residents frequently succumb to the local propaganda machine and do not know the actual state of affairs, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.

"From my own experience, I can tell you that even those who are now in the basements of buildings and so on. Firstly, they very often really become hostages of these very nationalist military formations, (citizens - TASS) are often used as shields. Secondly, they are not aware of the actual state of affairs; and thirdly, they succumb to Ukrainian propagandists. This is indeed so," the Kremlin spokesman noted.

Responding to a question whether the employees of the Russian presidential administration have relatives in Ukraine, Peskov pointed out that "not only in the presidential administration but countrywide, the large majority of the population has friends, distant and close relatives residing in Ukraine. Surely, right now everyone has a heavy heart for what is occurring to these relatives."

Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a televised address on February 24 that in response to a request by the leaders of the Donbass republics he had made a decision to carry out a special military operation. The Russian head of state stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories. Russia’s Defense Ministry reported later on Thursday that Russian troops were not delivering strikes against Ukrainian cities. It emphasized that Ukrainian military infrastructure was being destroyed through the use of precision weapons. Civilians are not threatened, the Russian military assured.
