Up to WADA to decide on sanctions for participation in Friendship Games — IOC President

Thomas Bach said that WADA would have to consider then what this would mean with regard to compliance for sport in Russia

PARIS, March 20. /TASS/. It is up to the World Anti-Doping Agency to decide on sanctions against Russian athletes for their participation in the Friendship Games, International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach said.

"[We] get some propaganda news here and there from time to time, they are contradictory. The only thing we know so far is that they will not have an internationally acknowledge anti-doping regime, and this in a country, which has some history with regard to manipulating the internationally recognized doping system," Bach said. "You have heard the statement of WADA, which is very clear, so WADA would have to consider then what this would mean with regard to compliance for sport in Russia. And, since 50% of WADA shareholders are governments, then also for the Russian government and also for the Russian Olympic Committee, and what it may mean for participating athletes or even participating national Olympic committees.".
