Most Ukrainians back freeze of conflict, but reject concessions to Russia — poll

The survey was conducted on September 2-14, 1,023 people participated in the territories controlled by Kiev

MOSCOW, September 16. /TASS/. An overwhelming majority, or 74% of Ukrainians would support ending the conflict along the current front line, while 17% would support the withdrawal of the Ukrainian army from Donbass, a survey conducted by the Kiev International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) showed.

When asked if they would agree to a settlement under the key provision that the conflict be frozen along the current front line, 18% said they would readily accept, another 56% that it would be a difficult but acceptable option. Only 15% opposed it and declared the need to fight for the return of the lost territories. 11% found it difficult to give an answer.

When asked about their willingness to accept a peace deal involving the withdrawal of the Ukrainian army from Donbass, lifting sanctions against Russia, granting the Russian language an official status, Kiev's refusal to join NATO, and recognition of Crimea, the Lugansk People’s Republic and the Donetsk People’s Republic as part of Russia, 3% of respondents said they would accept those terms, another 14% would accept but with reservations. 75% of the respondents rejected that scenario outright, and another 8% found it difficult to answer.
