CIS foreign ministers adopt statement on ensuring safe journalism

The foreign ministries' representatives approved the decisions on the establishment of a single commemorative medal "80 years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945"

MINSK, April 12. /TASS/. The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Foreign Ministers' Council meeting in Minsk has adopted a joint statement on ensuring safe conditions for journalists' professional activities and preventing infringement of their rights, a TASS correspondent reports.

Heads and representatives of diplomatic agencies of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan also adopted a statement on declaring the Azerbaijani city of Ganja the CIS sports capital for 2025 and the Kazakh city of Almaty in 2026.

Besides, they adopted a statement on the CIS core organizations for research into the problems of ensuring military security and in training of personnel for judicial systems. The foreign ministries' representatives declared the implementation of the plan of multilevel inter-ministerial consultations within the CIS and the action program of intensification of cooperation between the foreign ministries. A statement was also issued to mark the 30th anniversary of granting the CIS observer status at the UN General Assembly.

The foreign ministries' representatives approved the decisions on the establishment of a single commemorative medal "80 years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945" and on the draft Convention on the legal status of delegations sent to the CIS member states for consideration by the CIS heads of state.
