Red Cross working on medicine deliveries to Donetsk, Lugansk

A logistical chain built back in 2014 to deliver medicines and medical goods to Donetsk and Lugansk was violated and interrupted as the military conflict on the territory of Ukraine has escalated, an ICRC spokesperson Galina Balsamova said

GENEVA, May 25. /TASS/. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has never made the decision to stop delivering medicines to healthcare facilities of Donetsk and Lugansk, an ICRC spokesperson Galina Balsamova has told TASS.

"We are very concerned by the shortage of medicines in Donetsk and Lugansk, by how it may affect the well-being of those who depend on medicines such as insulin. We did not make the decision to stop supplies to healthcare facilities in Donetsk and Lugansk," committee spokesperson said.

"A logistical chain built back in 2014 to deliver medicines and medical goods to Donetsk and Lugansk was violated and interrupted as the military conflict on the territory of Ukraine has escalated," she said.

"We are working to find practical and effective solutions to this very serious problem, because we know that people who have no access to medicines they need will find themselves in a an increasingly critical situation," the spokeswoman added.

Earlier media reports said the World Health Organization and the International Committee of the Red Cross had suspended supplies of medicines for diabetes, tuberculosis and AIDS patients to to the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk.
