Drug police seize over one ton of drugs during New Year holidays in Russia

MOSCOW, January 09. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s drug police have seized over one tonne of drugs during the New Year and Christmas holidays, the press service of the Federal Drugs Control Service told Itar-Tass on Thursday.

“From January 1 to January 8 drug police have closed several large drug trafficking channels,” the press service said. “Police officers seized 157 kilograms of heroin, 20.5 kilograms of hashish, 787 kilograms of marijuana, 157 kilograms of synthetic drugs, and 5.9 kilograms of psychotropic substances - a total of 587 wholesale batches, which could be enough to produce 21.36 million of single doses.”

The largest batches were seized in Moscow, the Moscow region, the Republic of Buryatia, the Krasnodar, Krasnoyarsk, Primorsky and Stavropol regions, the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District as well as in the Astrakhan, Vladimir, Voronezh, Rostov and Tyumen regions, the press service said.

Moreover, 60 drug dens have been liquidated over this period.
