No violations in detentions at protest actions - human rights chief

A series of unauthorized actions occurred in Russia on Saturday

MOSCOW, January 24. /TASS/. Head of the Russian Presidential Council for Civil Society and Human Rights Valery Fadeev says there are no violations in detentions at unauthorized protest actions occurred on Saturday.

"These actions are unlawful. Further to not being agreed, they also take place during the epidemic period," Fadeev says in his statement posted on the Council’s website. "Certainly, there is a need of speaking about unlawfulness of actions, rather than about detentions. I absolutely do not see the violation [in detentions]," he added.

These are not the first unauthorized actions occurred in Russia, Fadeev said. "Usually it ends with making a statement of administrative violation and a release. I am confident this will be exactly so in this case, unless there are some provocations or clashes with police," he noted.

Fadeev urges to thoroughly investigate facts of involving underage individuals in non-authorized events. "A disgusting case. This requires investigation. This is because the scale of the outreach in TikTok, calling in the first instance on the underage persons to take part in such actions, is very serious," the head of the Council says.

A series of unauthorized actions occurred in Russia on Saturday. According to date of the Interior Ministry, about 4,000 individuals took part in the action in Moscow and about 600 of them were detained, as the Public Oversight Commission reported.
