Russia prefers diplomacy, but now must defend itself with special operation — Kremlin

"But in conditions when the same Ukraine refuses dialogue and, moreover, legally prohibits such dialogue for itself, we continue the special military operation to ensure our interests," Dmitry Peskov pointed out

MOSCOW, March 7. /TASS/. Moscow prefers diplomatic methods of resolving issues, but in the current conditions it has to defend itself with the special military operation, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

"Russia has its own interests. We nned to ensure our security. That is why we are conducting the special military operation. But, of course, we prefer to achieve our goals through political and diplomatic methods. However, in conditions when the same Ukraine refuses dialogue and, moreover, legally prohibits such dialogue for itself, we continue the special military operation to ensure our interests," he pointed out.

This is how the Kremlin spokesman commented on US President Donald Trump's words that Ukraine and Russia want to settle the conflict because they allegedly have no choice.

At the same time, Peskov refused to explain the meaning of Trump's words about the lack of choice. "Maybe you should ask Mr. Trump," he said.
