No invitation from Bern to Russia to attend conference on Ukraine — Russian embassy

"The idea of a 'peace conference' proposed by the organizers is unacceptable to us, as it is another way of pushing through an unviable 'peace formula' that does not accommodate Russia’s interests," the press service stated

GENEVA, April 9. /TASS/. Switzerland has not sent Russia an invitation to a conference on Ukraine, but even if it does, the Russian side will not accept it, as it is about pushing through an unviable "peace formula" that does not accommodate Russia’s interests, the press service of the Russian embassy in Bern has said.

"The Swiss side has not sent Russia an invitation to the conference. At the same time, our position is well known. The idea of a 'peace conference' proposed by the organizers is unacceptable to us, as it is another way of pushing through an unviable 'peace formula' that does not accommodate Russia’s interests," the press service stated.

In this regard, the Russian embassy recalled what Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on April 8: the Swiss side had called the conference with one aim only - "to ensure the required number of delegates at this event, which is based solely on Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s ultimatum 'peace formula.'"

"This formula envisages no compromises or alternatives. It completely ignores the well-meaning proposals that were made at a certain point by China, South Africa, Brazil, and the Arab League," Lavrov said.

Even if an invitation to such an event is received, the Russian side will not accept it, the embassy stated. "As Sergey Lavrov remarked on this occasion, Moscow "cannot consider Switzerland as a neutral platform for international negotiations on a wide variety of issues, although it used to be one," the embassy explained.
