Over 3.75 mln Russians register to vote online in presidential election

Nikolay Bulayev emphasized that, all in all, the overall number of voters submitting applications through the mobile app has surpassed the figure for the 2018 election

MOSCOW, March 6. /TASS/. A total of 3.75 mln voters have registered to vote online in the Russian presidential election, with another 2.65 mln applications being received via the mobile app, Russian Central Election Commission (CEC) Deputy Chairman Nikolay Bulayev said.

"The number of applications submitted for voting in other precincts or online through the Mobile Voter application. A total of 6,400,000 applications have been received, <…> with 2,650,000 of them for voting at other precincts [aside from voters’ home precincts], according to the [given voters’ actual] location, which is a significant number, and 3,750,000 for online voting," he said.

Bulayev emphasized that, all in all, the overall number of voters submitting applications through the mobile app has surpassed the figure for the 2018 election. "At the same time, I should emphasize that in 2018 we only counted [applications received in] Moscow. Today such applications are submitted in Moscow only for voting when a person has circumstances that prevent him or her from voting online," he said.

The Federation Council, or upper house of Russia’s parliament, designated March 17, 2024 as the date of the presidential election. The CEC then announced that voting will take place over three days, from March 15 through 17, making it Russia’s first three-day presidential election.
