West steps up contacts with radicals to organize illegal actions in Russia — FC commission

The commission's working group noted a new round of escalation of attempts to interfere in the Russian presidential election

MOSCOW, February 26. /TASS/. The Western official establishment is building up relations with radicals listed as foreign agents in Russia with the aim to organize attempts to destabilize the socio-political situation on the eve of the presidential election, as follows from a message uploaded to the Telegram channel of the Federation Council's commission on the protection of Russia’s state sovereignty and prevention of interference in the internal affairs.

"The commission's working group notes a new round of escalation of attempts to interfere in the Russian presidential election. Western countries have started making direct calls for not recognizing the results of the Russian elections and have stepped up communication with the radicals to try to organize illegal actions. Western official organizations are in close contact with the radicals with the aim to organize attempts to destabilize the socio-political situation in Russia," the post reads.

On February 22, there was a joint meeting of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs, the subcommittee on human rights and the delegation on relations with Russia with the participation of a number of foreign agents and representatives of extremist structures.

"During the meeting, the chairman of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, David McAllister, said that the presidential election in Russia would be an important test for the Russian opposition and expressed hope that actions aimed against the current government will continue in Russia. We consider these statements as a direct call for illegal actions and an open acknowledgement of preparations for provocations with the participation of radicals listed as foreign agents and other proxies of the West," the members of the FC’s commission said.

The senators draw attention to the fact that all attempts to destabilize the situation in Russia on the eve of the election "will be firmly suppressed and their participants will be punished in accordance with Russian legislation.

The Russian presidential election will be held on March 15-17, 2024.
