MOSCOW, November 9. /TASS/. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov has called the attention of the global community to the recent US statements about killing the Arctic LNG-2 project, given what happened to the Nord Streams pipelines.
"We should probably assess them through the prism of the words of Mr. [US President Joe] Biden, who once said that the US will destroy Nord Stream and Nord Stream-2. Some time later, the Nord Streams were blown up. I think that the global community should also pay attention to these words, because again we are talking about encroachment on a very important energy project," he said on Rossiya-1 television.
He was commenting on the statement by US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Geoffrey Pyatt, who said Washington is seeking to kill the Arctic LNG-2 project.
On November 2, the US Department of Treasury sanctioned Arctic LNG-2 and set January 31, 2024 as the deadline to complete any deals around the energy project. Novatek chief executive Leonid Mikhelson said at the Verona Eurasian Economic Forum that the US sanctions on Arctic LNG-2 are a sign of his company's professionalism.
Arctic LNG-2 is Novatek's second LNG project. It envisages building three LNG production lines with a capacity of 6.6 million tons per year each and producing up to 1.6 million tons per year of stable gas condensate. The project will source gas from the Utrenneye field on the Gydan Peninsula in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District. The first, second and third lines are scheduled to go live in 2023, 2024 and 2026, respectively.
