High-level talks between Russia, China on the horizon, Lavrov says

According to the Russian top diplomat, the two counties will continue to discuss the configuration of international relations based on the documents signed in recent years

MOSCOW, February 15. /TASS/. Moscow and Beijing will soon hold a series of high-level talks, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told the State Duma, Russia’s lower house of parliament, on Wednesday.

"As for the People’s Republic of China, we will soon hold a series of talks at a high political level," he noted.

According to the Russian top diplomat, the two counties will continue to discuss the configuration of international relations based on the documents signed in recent years. "Certainly, the [desired] global configuration is multipolar. Attempts are being made to scare us by saying that if multipolarity suddenly became a reality, there would be chaos, whereas with Americans at the helm [allegedly] order would be restored," Lavrov said.

He pointed out that US officials constantly talk about the exceptionalism of the United States. "We clearly don’t need a world order like that. However, they are now starting to play games again, trying to return to a bipolar world order, this time with China," the minister noted.

Lavrov explained that he wasn’t one of those "who are afraid of multipolarity" because of the large number of players. He agreed that it’s more difficult to come to a decision when all opinions are taken into consideration but "what is reached by consensus is far more sustainable and long-term oriented than imposed solutions that leave someone dissatisfied." This is why, in Lavrov’s words, even if regional leaders emerge in a multipolar world, the system will be stable.
