Russian forces gain foothold in southern suburbs of Ugledar, Donetsk leader says

Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu earlier said that Russian troops were successfully developing their offensive near Ugledar and Artyomovsk in the Donetsk People’s Republic

MOSCOW, February 10. /TASS/. Russian troops have gained a foothold in the southern suburbs of the city of Ugledar, Acting Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Denis Pushilin said on Friday.

"The situation along the Ugledar frontline is rather tense. We have gained a foothold in its southern part, in the suburbs, but the enemy keeps sending rather large reserve units there, delaying the liberation of the city," he pointed out at a meeting with journalists, bloggers and public figures.

Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu earlier said that Russian troops were successfully developing their offensive near Ugledar and Artyomovsk in the Donetsk People’s Republic.

Pushilin said that Russian troops had gained a foothold in the eastern part of Ugledar in late January. According to DPR officials, the taking of Ugledar, an important logistics hub located southwest of Donetsk, will make it possible to cut off supplies to Ukrainian forces stationed along the Maryinka frontline from where shelling attacks are carried out on the western part of Donetsk. Yan Gagin, an advisor to the Donetsk leader, earlier told TASS that the taking of Ugledar would allow Russian forces to target Ukrainian troops in several areas.
