Kremlin redirects question on situation around Kherson to Defense Ministry

MOSCOW, November 7. /TASS/. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov did not comment on the situation around Kherson and redirected the question on the matter to the Russian Defense Ministry.

"This is a question which involves military aspects so I recommend it be addressed to the Defense Ministry," the Kremlin official told journalists on Monday replying to a question as to how Russian leader Vladimir Putin assessed the situation on the Kherson front and how valid the comparisons of the situation in that region with the battle for Stalingrad were.

On November 6, Deputy Governor of the Kherson Region Kirill Stremousov said that the Ukrainian side was amassing a large number of tanks and armored vehicles on the outskirts of the region, Earlier, he suggested that Kiev was intensifying bombardments in anticipation of an attempt to advance.

The battle for Stalingrad is one of the decisive strategic operations of the Great Patriotic War and in terms of its scope, duration, tension and the number of participants is one of the largest ones in the Second World War. The battle lasted 200 days in an area of about 100,000 square kilometers with the frontline ranging from 400 to 850 kilometers. At different stages of military action, more than 2.1 mln people from both sides participated in the battle. This operation has cardinally changed the course of the war and became a harbinger of victory for Soviet troops over Germany.
