US may soon announce measures against sanctions evasion by Russia — White House

Jake Sullivan pointed out that Russia was trying to adjust to the fact that it was under tremendous economic pressure at the moment

WASHINGTON, April 14. /TASS/. US authorities may announce within the next week or two measures against companies in Russia and other countries for evading the West's anti-Russian sanctions, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said on Thursday, speaking at a conference organized by the Economic Club of Washington, D.C.

"Our focus will be over the course of the coming days is on evasion [of sanctions]," Sullivan said. He added that Russia is trying to adjust to the fact that it is now under tremendous economic pressure. "I think we'll have some announcements in the next week or two that identify targets that are trying to facilitate that evasion both inside Russia and beyond," he stressed.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24 launched a special operation in Ukraine in response to a request for help from the leaders of the Donbass republics. He stressed that Moscow had no plans to occupy Ukrainian territories. Its sole aim, Putin emphasized, is to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine. The West responded to Russia's decision by imposing large-scale sanctions against it. A number of Western politicians admitted that this was essentially an economic war against Russia.
