Putin says Russian-Belarusian cooperation in plasma engines holds promise

"It’s very pleasant that today we are talking about the continuation of our cooperation based on the groundwork that was made in previous decades, but using today's progress," the Russian president said

VOSTOCHNY SPACEPORT, April 12. /TASS/. Cooperation between Russia and Belarus in creating plasma engines is very promising, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko at the Vostochny spaceport in eastern Russia on Tuesday.

"It’s very pleasant that today we are talking about the continuation of our cooperation based on the groundwork that was made in previous decades, but using today's progress, the Russian president said. "I mean the creation of a new satellite for high-precision earth probing, the future creation and joint work on plasma engines that can be used. This is a very promising subject."

Putin and Lukashenko held space cooperation talks on the day when the Soviet Union launched the first piloted spacecraft back in 1961. The Russian president said Belarusian workers have a chance to participate in the expansion of the Vostochny spaceport.

"We need good builders that are competent and have good technological capabilities," Putin said. "Thanks to your efforts, Belarus hasn’t only maintained that, but also actively developed and it can be used to solve shared issues that, without any doubt, will benefit the development of our economies and high technologies in our countries".
