"Russia and France share quite a rich history of relations. Cooperation between Moscow and Paris has always been important for efforts to ensure security and stability on the European continent," Putin said in his message.

He was also confident that the two countries would "continue to work together on pressing bilateral, regional and global issues in the interests of the people of Russia and France, as well as Europe and the entire world."
