Border checkpoint in Kursk Region fired at, no victims, say authorities

The gun emplacements were suppressed by the Russian border guards’ retaliatory fire, the authorities informed

KURSK, April 13. /TASS/. The border checkpoint in the village of Gordeyevka in the Kursk Region was fired at on Wednesday afternoon with no victims reported, the administration of the Korenevsky district said on its VKontakte account.

"An hour ago, the border checkpoint in the village of Gordeyevka was fired at from firearms. The gun emplacements were suppressed by the Russian border guards’ retaliatory fire. There are no victims or destruction on our side," it said.

The Kursk Region authorities declared a high terror alert in the region from April 11 over possible provocations by Ukrainian nationalists.

On Saturday, April 9, the border post near the settlement of Yelizavetovka of the Glushkovsky district in the Kursk Region was shelled by mortars from Ukrainian territory. There were no victims or destruction. The local authorities assured that the situation in the border areas was under control.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a televised address on February 24 that in response to a request by the heads of the Donbass republics he had made a decision to carry out a special military operation in Ukraine in order to protect people "who have been suffering from abuse and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years." The Russian leader stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories, noting that the operation was aimed at the denazification and demilitarization of Ukraine.

The Russian Defense Ministry reassured that Russian troops are not targeting Ukrainian cities, but are limited to surgically striking and incapacitating Ukrainian military infrastructure. There are no threats whatsoever to the civilian population.
