China tops box office sales for Russian movies in 2024

MOSCOW, March 20. /TASS/. China has emerged as the top market for Russian films in terms of box office revenue in 2024, industry relations and international b2b events director of the Russian state-owned audiovisual product company Roskino Dmitry Kabanov said at a press conference in TASS.

"The top five box office markets where Russian movies were the most popular are as follows: China, Mexico, Brazil, Italy, and Persian Gulf countries," Kabanov said.

In Europe and the US, "the door is open a crack" for the Russian film industry, he noted.

Russia maintains a presence at major film events in all the markets where its movies are popular, the senior executive said. "These are Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, Latin America and Europe. Speaking about Europe, we mean in particular such movie markets as the Berlin movie market and the Cannes movie market," Kabanov added.
