Pilot operation of Russian 5G, 6G-Ready equipment to start by 2035 — industry strategy

The use of 3G technology should be phased out during the first stage of strategy implementation in order to free up the radio frequency spectrum for more advanced technologies that factor in the interests of priority technology users

MOSCOW, December 4. /TASS/. Domestic communications equipment meeting 5G and 6G-Ready standards will be put into pilot operation by 2030 and 2035, respectively, according to the Russian government’s approved communications industry strategy for the period up to 2035.

"Phase one of the strategy’s implementation (in 2023-2030) calls for: <…> developing and conducting pilot operations of [domestic] Russian equipment that complies with 5G and 6G-Ready standards that factor in information safety requirements for the use of cryptographic information security aids certified by the Russian Federal Security Service, and rolling out the practice of shared use of support infrastructure by mobile communications operators to deploy 5G networks, and 6G networks by 2035," the document reads.

The use of 3G technology should be phased out during the first stage of strategy implementation in order to free up the radio frequency spectrum for more advanced technologies that factor in the interests of priority technology users.
