HAIKOU /China/, November 29. /TASS/. The authorities of the resort city of Sanya, located on the southern coast of Hainan Island, are focusing their efforts on forming a world-class tourism industry, the Sanya Daily newspaper reported.

According to the newspaper, the city is focused on intensive development of not only beach tourism, but also the consumer sector, aimed at both the younger generation and tourists of more advanced age. Sanya's official development plan for the next decade became the foundation for the establishment of an international tourist mecca there, under which the resort will top the Chinese market in attractiveness by 2025 and significantly increase its prestige on a global scale.

Sanya will be able to achieve this goal because of its advantageous geographical location and by constantly improving its quality of service. From the beginning of this year, as consumer demand grows in local duty-free stores, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of luxury brands from around the world.

The city of Sanya is playing an increasingly important role in the development of Hainan's retail system, Chinese experts stressed. The city is attracting many investors and may become a "new hub" for international prestige markets in the future.

According to local experts, Sanya has great potential in creating attractive tourism products, particularly through marine tourism, yachting, exciting exhibitions and sought-after health services. The city's cultural and economic specificity is expected to enable it to compete successfully with prestigious resorts in Southeast Asia on an ongoing basis.

Sanya is China's leading resort and is home to more than 1 million people. In 2022, its gross product totaled 84.71 billion yuan (approximately $12.2 billion). Its average annual temperature reaches 25.4 degrees Celsius, and its coastline is over 200 kilometers long. There are 19 bays and about 40 islands suitable for tourism in the surrounding water area, all of which allow the local government to successfully develop yachting and beach tourism.
