WASHINGTON, February 24. /TASS/. US President Joe Biden will sign proclamations on Friday to raise tariffs on imports of metals, minerals and a number of chemical products from Russia totaling $2.8 billion, according to a statement posted on the White House website.
"Today, the [US] President will sign proclamations to raise tariffs on certain Russian products imported to the United States, building on previous efforts to strip Russia of its international trade privileges. <...> Today’s action will result in increased tariffs on more than 100 Russian metals, minerals, and chemical products worth approximately $2.8 billion to Russia. It will also significantly increase costs for aluminum that was smelted or cast in Russia to enter the US market ," the statement said.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a special military operation in Ukraine following a request for assistance from the leaders of the Donbass republics. In response to Russia's decision, the West began to impose numerous and extensive sanctions against it in stages. At the same time, Western states began to supply arms and military equipment to Kiev.
