US takes advantage of economic recession in Europe — Hungary’s Foreign Minister

It is noted that the US law on inflation reduction, restrictions on the sale of European electric vehicles on the US market and aluminum tariffs are among the measures that raise suspicions of violating the rules governing global trade

BUDAPEST, November 25. /TASS/. The United States has managed to take advantage of the recession in Europe, driven by the military conflict in Ukraine and anti-Russian sanctions, Hungary’s Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto told reporters on Friday.

Developments in Ukraine and EU sanctions on Russia caused an energy crisis and pushed the European economy into recession, the Minister said. "If we look at the global economy, we can see that the European Union is now losing," Szijaarto said, streamed by Hungarian TV. "It is absolutely clear who is profiting from the suffering of the European economy," he added.

"The position and competitiveness of the US economy have definitely improved over the latest period," the Minister noted. "The movement of the European economy towards recession is a good piece of news for the US economy and the US probably managed to benefit from it," he said.

The US law on inflation reduction, restrictions on the sale of European electric vehicles on the US market and aluminum tariffs are among the measures that "raise suspicions of violating the rules governing global trade," the Minister said. The EU should give a tit-for-tat response with respect to the US in order to support its own economy and national companies, Szijjarto added.
