HAIKOU, September 14 ./TASS/. The construction of a high-speed highway between the cities of Wenchang and Qionghai in the province of Hainan is reaching its final stage. According to www.hinews.cn, the new highway will be open in the near future.
The commissioning of this highway will reduce the commute between two settlements to about 30 minutes. Previously, a trip along the route took more than an hour. The total length of the road, which will become an important part of the province’s high-speed highway network, is 65.7 km. Its maximum speed is limited to 120 km/h. The highway's construction was launched in November 2016.
The road will become a part of the eastern section of the Hainan Ring Highway, which will get the G98 index. At present, the locals can use a section of this route with a length of more than 500 km. The Wenchang-Qionghai highway, the news outlet writes, will make it possible to connect all the key coastal cities of the island with a ring of high speed roads.
The local authorities by 2020 intend to increase the total length of high-speed roads in the province to 1360 kilometers. The infrastructure plays an important role in improving transport links on the island in the context of the construction of the pilot free trade zone on Hainan. The plans for creating the zone were announced by President Xi Jinping in 2018. The opening of the pilot free trade zone, according to the authorities, will launch the processes of globalization of the island's economy and increase the attractiveness of the Chinese province for foreign investors.
