Politician says intense hostilities taking place in Zaporozhye Region near Orekhov

It is stated that the high ground has been taken

MELITOPOL, January 20. /TASS/. Vladimir Rogov, chairman of the We Are Together with Russia civil society group, on Friday told TASS that intense hostilities are going on near the town of Orekhov in the Zaporozhye Region.

The town is about 60 kilometers from the city of Zaporozhye, the regional capital that’s controlled by Kiev.

"It’s not yet the storming of Orekhov, but intense hostilities are taking place in its suburbs," he said. "The high ground has been taken, which establishes fire control over Orekhov and other settlements."

According to Rogov, control over these heights will define further moves by Russian forces.

The politician said Russian forces have reached numerical parity with the armed forces of Ukraine on the Zaporozhye axis, partly due to the redeployment of Ukrainian troops to the DPR.

"Many Ukrainian units have been redeployed to the east, and things have been easier in our area. A parity in forces has emerged for the first time here, along the engagement line in the Zaporozhye Region. Before, they always outnumbered us a bit," Rogov said.

Rogov told TASS on Thursday that Russian forces seized operational control of four settlements near the town of Orekhov, which will lead to its operational encirclement.
