TEHRAN, July 3. /TASS/. Any US violation of its commitments as part of the negotiation process will result in a military response from Iran, Acting Defense Minister Major General Seyyed Majid Ibn Reza stated.
"If we see any violation of obligations [by the adversary] during negotiations, we will respond on the battlefield," he told the Iranian state broadcaster. "Iran is capable of both negotiating and engaging in confrontation simultaneously," the top defense official added.
On February 28, the US and Israel launched a military operation against Iran. In mid-June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding. The terms of the agreement included an immediate ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and the start of the unfreezing of Iranian assets. On June 21-22, negotiations took place in Switzerland’s Burgenstock, with Qatar and Pakistan acting as mediators. During these talks, the parties agreed to establish a center to enforce the ceasefire in Lebanon and a communication channel to ensure safe navigation in the Persian Gulf. However, on June 27-28, tensions escalated again. In response to an Iranian drone attack on a commercial tanker, the US Air Force struck Iranian radar stations, air defense systems, and weapons depots on Iran’s southern coast near the Strait of Hormuz. On June 28, Washington and Tehran reached an agreement to mutually cease the strikes and scheduled new consultations to resolve their differences over the Strait of Hormuz.
