Lebanese PM says Israel violating ceasefire 'several times a day, every day'

According to Mikati, the Lebanese people "have suffered much and continue to suffer from Israel’s aggression."

ANKARA, December 18. /TASS/. Israel is failing to comply with its obligations under the 60-day ceasefire deal it has in place with Lebanon, violating it every day, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati said at a joint press conference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

"It’s been three weeks since the ceasefire agreement took effect on November 27 but we still see Israel violating it," he pointed out. "It happens several times a day, every day, which, needless to say, is alarming. Israel is not fulfilling its obligations to withdraw troops," the Lebanese premier added.

According to Mikati, the Lebanese people "have suffered much and continue to suffer from Israel’s aggression." "Apart from civilian casualties, the social and economic sector have also faced devastating aftereffects, along with the environment; and overcoming them requires international assistance. So we look forward to getting support from the fraternal nation of Turkey and other friendly countries," he emphasized.

A ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon took effect on the morning of November 27. US President Joe Biden announced that the accord between Israel and the Hezbollah movement would allow the Lebanese army and state security forces to restore control over the country’s territory within 60 days. Israeli troops will then be gradually withdrawn from Lebanon.
