WASHINGTON, December 8. /TASS/. The United States is working to make Russia engage in negotiations on terms that would be advantageous for the Kiev government, US Deputy National Security Advisor Jonathan Finer said.
"I think the place we would like to put the Ukrainians at the end of next year is where Russia is confronted with a decision: either they have to come to the negotiating table on terms that would be acceptable to Ukraine, [and] based on the UN charter's dictates of sovereignty and territorial integrity for Ukraine, <...> or they will face a stronger Ukraine, backed by a stronger defense industrial base in the United States in Europe and in Ukraine that has more ability to go on the offense," he told the Aspen Security Forum.
"After 2024, we are ramping up our production, our defense industrial base, [and] we are working with the Ukrainians, including in a conference taking place this week in Washington, on ramping up their defense industrial base. The European allies of the United States are doing the same thing, and we will be in a much stronger footing a year and a half from now than we are today," the official continued.
"That is a very hard strategic choice. I don't know where the Russians would ultimately come down, but that's what the question we would like to have put to them," he added.
At the same time, he claimed that Washington does not support Ukraine’s attacks that target the Russian territory.
