GENEVA, November 24. /TASS/. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has helped to release 24 hostages in the area of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, as the humanitarian organization helped to transfer them from the Gaza Strip to the Rafah crossing on the border with Egypt, the ICRC said in a post on its X page (formerly known as Twitter).
"We are relieved to confirm the safe release of 24 hostages," said the ICRC based in Geneva. "We have facilitated this release by transporting them from Gaza to the Rafah border, marking the real-life impact of our role as a neutral intermediary between the parties."
On November 22, the radical movement Hamas announced an agreement with Israel, which was brokered by Egypt and Qatar, on a four-day humanitarian truce in the Gaza Strip. Under the deal, 50 women and children under the age of 19 held hostage in the enclave are to be released in return for the release of 150 women and children under the age of 19 from Israeli prisons. The Gaza truce came into effect on Friday at 7:00 a.m. local time (5:00 a.m. GMT).
