Turkish president expects to bring Western countries over to Palestine's side

Recep Tayyip Erdogan also emphasized how important it is that "the Islamic world not remain silent on the occupation" of the Gaza Strip

ANKARA, November 22. /TASS/. No Western countries are concerned about ending violence in the Gaza Strip except Spain, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told reporters on his return from Algeria.

"Unfortunately, except for one country in the West, no one has taken up the issue. Almost all European countries remain silent. No one is intervening to stop the massacre. Only Spain is contributing to the situation in a constructive way. A government has been formed there. I will meet with Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez next week. He holds a different position [on what is happening in the Middle East]," the Anadolu news agency quoted him as saying.

Erdogan said that "one cannot shun those countries" that remain silent. "We will meet with them, discuss issues, think of ways to get them on the Palestinian side. We had a visit to Germany last week. We see what is happening [in Europe]," he pointed out.

The Turkish leader also emphasized how important it is that "the Islamic world not remain silent on the occupation" of the Gaza Strip. "The fall of Gaza would deal a huge blow to the unity and solidarity of the Islamic world. Staying silent and not responding to Israel's reckless occupation of Gaza and its attacks that disregard international law, human rights and ethical values is shameful. The Islamic world must act in unity and solidarity and become a united fist," he said.

Erdogan called for the full implementation of the Riyadh summit's decisions because when "this fist hits the table with all its force, Israel will not be able to continue its occupation and atrocities." "Israel's state terrorism and occupation actions in Gaza and other Palestinian cities are a crime against humanity, genocide," he added.
