Belarus has no mobilization plans, current resources are enough — Security Council

Alexander Volfovich added that the West "is trying to militarize itself by conducting a huge number of exercises" and to drag the republic into a military conflict

MINSK, October 18. /TASS/. The authorities of Belarus have no plans for mobilization, because the country's army and security forces in their current condition are strong enough to maintain the nation’s security, the Security Council’s State Secretary Alexander Volfovich said on Tuesday.

"No mobilization is on the agenda. Our country has no plans for joining the hostilities. We don’t need this. But we will defend our country, if some hotheads cross our borders. We will mobilize ourselves and stand up for the defense of our country. In today's conditions, the country’s military and security forces are able to ensure the safety of our citizens," he was quoted as saying by the media resource SB. Belarus Segodnya (Belarus Today).

Volfovich added that the West "is trying to militarize itself by conducting a huge number of exercises" and to drag the republic into a military conflict.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has repeatedly stated that currently there is no need for mobilization. At the same time, the Defense Ministry in early October announced that, if necessary, it could call up for military service up to 500,000 trained personnel. The Defense Ministry recalled that 60% of the Belarusian army’s servicemen were contract soldiers.
