Ukraine seeks ‘legally verified security guarantees’ — Kiev official

On February 24, the Russian president said that he had launched a special military operation in Ukraine

KIEV, March 16. /TASS/. Ukraine is seeking "legally verified security guarantees", obliging the parties of the possible agreement to protect Ukraine, Ukrainian presidential office adviser Mikhail Podolyak said.

"[The Ukrainian side expects to receive] legally verified security guarantees, not protocol or "Budapest" ones (the Budapest Memorandum - TASS)," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

According to him, in the event of a conflict in Ukraine, the signatories of the guarantees will "take an active part" on the Ukrainian side in the conflict and provide "immediate supplies of the required amount of weapons."

Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24 said in an early morning televised address that he had launched a special military operation in Ukraine in response to a request for help from the leaders of the Donbass republics. He stressed that Moscow had no intention of occupying Ukrainian territories, the sole purpose of the operation, the leader stressed, is the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine.
