Russia’s fifth-generation Sibiryachok recon drone undergoing trials in special op zone

The drone records video of the terrain and can fly up to 20 kilometers at an altitude of up to 1,000 meters

MOSCOW, February 26. /TASS/. The Sibiryachok-5 unmanned aerial vehicle is undergoing testing with Russian troops in the special military operation zone in Ukraine, the All-Russia People's Front, whose Kulibin Club supports the developers, told TASS.

The Sibiryachok-5 is primarily a reconnaissance drone that records video of the terrain and can fly up to 20 kilometers at an altitude of up to 1,000 meters. It can recognize targets such as people, vehicles, and combat vehicles. "It can also carry a maximum payload of up to four kilograms," head of Sibiryachok-5 drone production at Gaskar company said.

The People's Front noted that the Sibiryachok drone represents the fifth generation of this series. Its predecessor, the Sibiryachok-4, has become the most widely supplied drone to the military, with approximately 16,000 items delivered. The latest model is currently undergoing trial runs in small batches with special force units. Serial deliveries are planned for 2026.

"The most important thing is that the drone operates on our own hardware, namely the circuit boards. If you make the circuit boards, you are not dependent on sanctions or suppliers. We purchase only components such as chips, resistors, and other components, and assemble them ourselves. We also manufacture the motors ourselves, which reduces their cost by two to three times while maintaining their performance," the manufacturer company representative said, adding that they plan to find replacements for the remaining imported parts this year.

The People's Front specified that the drone is 95% made from domestic components. According to the company representative, the Sibiryachok-5 outperforms foreign drones in its class.

"Our current flight time is up to 60 minutes on one battery and up to 90 minutes on two. The most popular models have a flight time half that." "Furthermore, we are claiming a long flight range—up to 17 kilometers with a return to the starting point; we have even achieved distances of up to 20 kilometers," he said.

The People's Front's Kulibin Club selects, tests, and supports the serial production of the best developments of the national engineers. Thanks to this initiative, thousands of innovative electronic warfare systems, quadcopters, self-propelled robotic vehicles, and other products have been deployed to the front.
