MOSCOW, July 4. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump faces a difficult two years as the country's leader if the Republican Party is defeated in the upcoming midterm congressional elections in November, Russian Federation Council Vice Speaker Konstantin Kosachev told TASS in an interview, when asked whether the war in Iran would affect the elections for Republicans.
"Now that these elections are five months away, it is clear that everything did not go exactly as Mr. Trump saw it, to put it mildly. Most analysts, of course, predict a significant loss of Republican positions in both chambers. Most likely, the loss of their majority in the House of Representatives," Kosachev said.
"In the Senate, not everything is so predictable and obvious yet. But if there is a defeat in both cases, if there is no majority in both chambers, it will be a very difficult story for President Trump with the remaining two years as president."
According to Kosachev, Trump is not interested in such a development and "will do his best to find a way out of this situation."
Midterm elections to the US Congress will be held on November 3. The entire composition of the House of Representatives - 435 people, as well as a third of the senators - 33 people are re-elected. Currently, both chambers are controlled by Republicans.
