Radio Liberty faces more fines for failure to remove banned content from website

The court has received 20 offense reports regarding the media, the court informed

MOSCOW, May 16. /TASS/. Radio Liberty (designated as a foreign agent in Russia) is facing more fines for failure to remove content that’s banned in Russia from its website, a court told TASS on Monday.

The court made the comments after receiving a slate of reports of violations by the radio station, which were compiled by the Russian communications watchdog, Roscomnadzor.

"The court has received 20 offense reports regarding Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty," the court said. "The organization is facing a total of up to 80 million rubles in fines."

Last week, a court in Moscow fined Radio Liberty 12.8 million rubles for refusing to remove information prohibited by Russian law, including fake news about the special military operation in Ukraine.

In total, the court had previously received 60 offense reports regarding the radio station, which cumulatively could carry fines of 240 million rubles.

In early March, Roscomnadzor restricted access to the websites of Radio Liberty and BBC. The move was in line with regulations for taking down websites that call for riots, extremism or participation in illegal rallies.
