SANYA, April 4. /TASS/. The sights of Hainan's Sanya on April 3 — on the first day of the weekend marking Qingming holiday (Day of Remembrance of the Dead) celebrated on Sunday, were visited by over 75,000 tourists, which is 563.98% higher than last year, according to the Sanya Daily.

The day before the start of the three-day weekend, which fell on April 3-5, the occupancy rate of hotels in Sanya reached 66.62%. This figure turned out to be 50.98 percentage points higher than that which was recorded in the same period of 2020. Such a high increase is seen due to the decline in the tourism market at the beginning of 2020 due to the pandemic.

On April 2, according to the local authorities, Sanya received over 44,000 tourists from other parts of the province and regions of China. The growth of the corresponding indicator in annual terms amounted to 152.77%. At the same time, the flow of local residents who left Sanya for tourist purposes increased by 118.7%, to 57,900 people. On the eve of the weekend, the newspaper writes, Sanya International Airport served about 345 flights — an increase of 82.54% in annual terms.

Qingming Festival in China is celebrated on the 108th day after the winter solstice. The Chinese sincerely believe in their connection with the souls of their ancestors, who can get angry if they are not properly honored. These ideas have not become a thing of the past and still constitute one of the foundations of the traditional culture and worldview of the Chinese people. At this time, it is customary to burn sacrificial paper money, which, according to legends, immediately go to the deceased ancestors in the afterlife.
